BTT1O (Dragon's Den) Summative Project

The PURPOSE

• Create a series of projects that demonstrate your BEST work in each of the areas we've studied this semester, specifically:
  • Digital Literacy & Computer Knowledge
  • Productivity Software: Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Databases
  • Design Software: Photoshop & HTML
• Demonstrate all the skills and competencies that you have accumulated to date
• Show how these skills could be realistically applied to a real world business situation
• Demonstrate your ability to RESEARCH each of the required components to achieve professional looking results

The PROJECT

• You are starting up a NEW business in the community, and need to create a series of computer documents to help get it launched and running.
  1. A Word Processed PROPOSAL of what your business will be about, what documents you're going to prepare (ie, the rest of this summative), and why this business is likely to be a huge success in this community. (10 marks)
     • You should include links to at least THREE comparable businesses on the internet that you can use as references
  2. A GOOGLE SPREADSHEET BUDGET that lists the items that you need to purchase, the tax on those items, and the total amount of money you'll need to begin operation (10 marks)
     • Formatting must make the spreadsheet clear and readable
     • Functions, Formulas & Calculations must be used to accurately process the numbers and allow for flexibility
  3. A FILEMAKER DATABASE to record SALES TRANSACTIONS (10 marks)
     • Fields should store Dates, Client's Names, Amount Charged, Taxes, Totals
     • Buttons should allow for automation: Starting new Transactions, Entering Today's Date etc.
  4. A WEBSITE to advertise and promote the services of your business (20 marks)
     • A frontpage (index.htm) that looks good and announces the nature of your business
     • Links (and a functioning menu) to logical supporting pages:
       • Prices, Products & Services available
       • Location
       • About the Owner (you)
     • An original Logo designed in PHOTOSHOP for your business (you may also be able to use this in your DATABASE) (10 marks)
     • A promotional description of your business
  5. A GOOGLE PRESENTATION that can be used to convince your financial backers (bank, investors, or parents) that your business is needed in the community, and that you can make it financially successful (10 marks)

Now that you have some competencies with computers, what businesses could you create that USE those computers? Consider:

• A WEBSITE DESIGN company
• A GRAPHIC DESIGN company
